Insulation is a year-round solution for Long Island homes

Many people associate insulation with the winter months, but not everyone knows that it's just as important in the summer. A home that is properly insulated will ensure that conditioned air stays inside, improving the life of your home heating and cooling systems and promoting a comfortable living environment.

Most importantly, insulation improvements will save you money on your monthly utility bill. Old, ineffective insulation is one of the biggest causes of home energy inefficiency.

Insulation types we recommend for today's homes

Existing homes on Long Island usually have fiberglass insulation in wall and attic spaces. Fiberglass is not enough. As the years go by, this insulation will compress and deteriorate – allowing energy that you're buying to escape from the home. You can do better, starting with the following insulation types.

Cellulose insulation – cellulose is one of the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly insulation materials on the market. This innovative insulation is made from recycled newspaper. It's treated with a natural fire retardant for increased safety, and can be applied liberally in attics and other hard-to-reach spaces. We use a blower to place cellulose insulation deep into air pockets in your home's structure, creating a tighter, more energy efficient home.

Spray foam insulation – spray foam is a synthetic product that we can apply in basements, crawl spaces and attics. With impressive heat resistance, spray foam will make a huge impact on your overall home performance. Since it's sticky, it also acts as an air sealant – keeping drafts and air leaks at bay. There are 2 types of spray foam insulation:

Open-cell spray foam – impressive R-value (measurement of heat resistance), long-lasting and allows moisture transfer. A good choice for attics.

Closed-cell spray foam – maximum R-value, long-lasting and does not allow moisture transfer. Perfect choice for basements and crawl spaces.
